Dr. James H. Nolt has been a Senior Fellow at the World Policy Institute for 20 years. He is also the author of the book “International Political Economy: The Business of War and Peace”. His core research interest is the influence of business, especially finance, on international relations. He frequently provides succinct and powerful explanations of US economic inequality in his online writing.

By the end of 2019, the bottom 50% of households had $1.67 trillion while the top 10 percent held $74.5 trillion. Why does such a small portion of the US population seem to own everything (financial assets, housing, etc)? Why are they mostly white? Why are Americans in such high levels of debt, and is debt necessary to uphold an unequal economic system? Finally, are we in the midst of a Depression?
